 Xialamuren
Steppe is located 90km
(60 miles) north of
Hohhot. This area of
grassland is the most
popular with tourists
visiting Inner Mongolia
and trips can be
arranged to allow you to
spend 2 or 3 days on the
steppes staying
overnight in yurts, and
perhaps enjoying horse
riding, archery,
wrestling, throat
singing and all manner
of traditional Mongolian
pursuits. Temperatures
are cool even in summer
and it is best to visit
in July and August when
the grass is at its
