The
prairies or steppes
outside Hohhot are the
images that most people
associate with Inner
Mongolia. Gegentala
means "bright
pastureland", and the
Gegentala Steppe is
located 145km (90 miles)
north of Hohhot.
Many choose to visit the
steppes for 2 or 3 days
and sleep overnight in
traditional yurts to
experience the vastness
of the grasslands and
traditional Mongolian
culture at close
quarters.
Horse riding, archery
and wrestling can all be
enjoyed here. July and
August are the best
times to visit when the
temperatures are mild
and the grass is at its
highest. |
